This site is about henna and the many uses for henna. Henna is a plant called Lawsonia inermis and is grown in hot dry climates for the darker staining henna. The red dye molecule called lawson gives henna its red orange stain. Henna is actually a shrub, or bush like plant.It has been used for over 5000 years and was a regular way of dying the hair and skin in Egypt. Henna was discovered while working in the fields the mud was used to keep the feet cool. The actual stain lowers the entire body temperature and as it was not very pretty staining the whole hand , body art was slowly introduced.
Henna was then later recognized in ceremonial marriage for the lower class. It grew in popularity and is now a very well known ritual for any bride in India and surrounding countries. The bride puts henna on her hands and feet and it is said if the henna last the marriage will as well.
Today many use henna for body art, hair, regular art and home remedies.
